Farmer and berry workshops brings agriculture professionals together

Skagit Ag Summit brings farmers together Feb. 6

The Skagit Ag Summit brings together farmers, agriculture professionals, community leaders who are working to ensure the success of agriculture in Skagit County.

“We’re always trying to bring information to the agriculture community, and the Ag Summit is a great way to do that,” said Don McMoran, executive director of WSU Extension in Skagit County, which is hosting the summit.

The one-day summit has a full slate of events including sessions about farm succession planning, ways to support agriculture infrastructure, new technology, and water issues. The Summit begins at 8:30 a.m. and takes place at the Extension office in Mount Vernon.

Pizza for Producers, which provides wood-fired pizza using local ingredients while helping build a sense of community and reducing the stigma surround mental health in agriculture.

U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen is scheduled to talk during the summit. He will be talking about resources available to help farmers in Skagit and Whatcom counties recover from December’s floods, his priorities in the Farm Bill and the review process for tariffs and the USMCA, said Pam Larkin, spokesperson for Rep. Larsen.

Eat Local First Trade Meeting takes place in Bellingham

More than 180 farmers, fishers, chefs, grocery buyers, food artisans, and processors will attend the Eat Local First Trade Meeting scheduled from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, and the Holiday Inn and Suites, 4260 Mitchell Way in Bellingham.

The one-day event includes a trade show, a marketing panel, speed networking, and a discussion on the future of food and farming.

Registration for the Trade Meeting costs $75 for a member, $90 for the general rate, and $105 the day of the meeting.
