Here are several news items I’ve seen while covering agriculture in the Puget Sound:
Flood monitoring available in King County
With the winter rains arriving, King County has resources available that monitor several waterways for possible flooding.
As of Tuesday afternoon, the Snoqualmie and White rivers are at Phase 4, Green River at Phase 3, Cedar River at Phase 2, and South Fork Skykomish River at Phase 1.
King County measure flood conditions in five phases – 0 (no flooding expected) to 4 (severe flooding expected).
The county monitors conditions on seven waterways – South Fork Skykomish River, Snoqualmie River, Issaquah Creek, Cedar River, Green River, and White River.
King County has a flood warning app, which is an accessible, user-friendly resource that is available on iOS, Android, and desktop, according to King County.
Workers start installing piles for new bridge on SR 9 over Snohomish River
The Snohomish Tribune reported work to build a second bridge on SR 9 over the Snohomish River has begun. Work crews are installing nearly 100 steel piles needed for two bridges running parallel to the current highway,
The current Snohomish River bridge is two lanes and Highway 9, which has seen more congestion on the roads, is an alternative north-south route to Interstate 5. Construction of the new bridge begins in 2026 with completion scheduled for 2028.
The $142 million project is funded through Connecting Washington which funded through an 11.9-cent gas tax that began in 2016.
