Farmers, ranchers and growers are being surveyed to help determine the needs, challenges and opportunities in Pierce County. They will be asked to complete a six-question survey.
The survey can be completed online at https://survey.alchemer.com/s3/8378528/Pierce-County-Ag-Industry-Strategic-Plan-Update. Deadline to complete the survey is Nov. 26.
The agriculture strategic plan was published in 2006, and, due to its age, isn’t maintained as a linked document on Pierce County’s agriculture website, said Dean McClary, associate agriculture planner for Pierce County, in an email.
He said there is no formal requirement to update the plan. Common update cycle for state and county level reports is every 10 years. He said the 2006 will be an initial template for the newest update. Current budget and staffing constraints will probably result in a simpler, more focused final report.
Research on the plan began in the first part of 2025 with public engagement taking place during the second half of the year. A date to complete the plan hasn’t been set yet, he added.
