Co-op forms to help wool producers throughout Pacific Northwest
Sheep producers endure bottleneck when trying to process wool.
Efforts are underway to improve the wool industry in the Pacific Northwest.
The Northwest Agriculture Business Center helped create the Pacific Northwest Wool Producers Cooperative that will help producers get their wool processed. The cooperative will serve sheep ranchers in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.
Business Center officials have been hearing from sheep growers of a huge bottleneck.
“It’s just hard to get it to market because there is so little processing,” said Emily Manke, project manager at the Northwest Agriculture Business Center. Following COVID, there was even less processing.
