New rules streamline regulations for maple syrup producers
New regulations recognize the remote nature and low risk while ensuring food safety and public health requirements.
Maple syrup producers will operate under new rules that are established by the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
The new rules create inspection criteria and licensing requirements tailored specifically to maple syrup operations, where there is currently one licensed producer in Washington.
“The new rule acknowledges the unique nature of maple syrup production, the very short production season and low risk of the product to establish an appropriate, science-based regulatory structure to support the growth of this industry while ensuring food safety and public health,” said Angelique Finney, Food Safety Technical Coordinator for the Washington State Department of Agriculture.
