Ranchers critical of allowing imported beef entering country at lower tariff rate
Farm organizations argue consumer price drop on beef has been negligible.
In an attempt to lower beef prices in grocery stores, the Trump Administration is allowing 300,000 metric tons of beef to enter the United States at a lower tariff rate.
However, ranchers argue the move caused a negligible price drop at grocery stores.
“What it does do is hurt the ranchers because it creates confusion,” said Chelsea Hajney, executive vice president of the Washington Cattleman’s Association, which advocates for the cattle industry in Washington State. “We don’t need more market uncertainty and government intervention to run our business.”
She added the beef imports haven’t been effective to help the American consumer.
