Viva Farm’s new barn in Skagit County helps harvest for small-scale farmers

New barn provides wash/pack space, dry storage and refrigerated storage. Construction was funded with a WSDA food infrastructure grant.

Workers at Viva Farms are putting the finishing touches on a new barn at its land located off Highway 20 near Burlington.

The new barn provides more capacity for pick-up and delivery and triples the amount of cold storage space and dry-storage space to help with curing of squash, said Elma Burnham, communications manager for Viva Farms.

The barn is funded by a $754,610 grant from the Washington State Department of Agriculture’s Local Food System Infrastructure program
