A ribbon cutting took place Wednesday celebrating the completion of the Southwest Washington Grain Project, developed at the Port of Chehalis. The silos provide a transportation hub for nearby farmers who have pivoted to growing more grains in recent years.

The new facility includes three silos that will store around 100,000 bushels of grain and three smaller silos that will store specialty grains. The facility can also be expanded.

Bill Teitzel, operations for the Port of Chehalis, said the port wanted to find ways to support agriculture and developed the grain project. “We knew we need to store some grain. We had a hard time getting rail cars when we needed them.”
