Northwest cherry numbers could lead to better prices for growers

Phinney and University District farmers markets hosts cherry tasting events in the coming weeks.

As the annual cherry harvest reaches its peak, two Seattle-area farmers markets have cherry tasting events in the coming weeks so shoppers can figure out their favorites.

Phinney Farmers Market’s cherry tasting event takes place Friday, June 26 and the University District Farmer’s Market takes place Saturday, July 7.

The cherry tastings come as growers are harvesting a fewer number of cherries compared to 2025. Estimates place the harvest at 18.4 million boxes harvested in 2026.

Officials are encouraged that a marketable number of cherries will be available.
