Lake City Farmers market extends season to help after supermarket closure
Market continues 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through Dec. 19.
Shoppers and vendors at the Lake City Farmers Market will mark Halloween by dressing up in costumes. Shoppers will enjoy food demonstrations and food samples as part of the holiday celebration.
The Halloween celebration comes as Lake City residents, located in northeast Seattle, are enjoying an extended farmers market season.
The extra dates come after the Lake City neighborhood lost a major grocery store when Fred Meyer closed in late 2025 and was the neighborhood’s only full-service grocery store. There is a smaller grocery store near the market, but residents have a harder time finding groceries that are market fresh and high quality, said Gia Kaur with Seattle Neighborhood Farmers Markets that organized the market in Lake City.
“It's also a high need area and residents of Lake City are more likely to be SNAP/EBT and food access shoppers. It's a diverse area and the market and local partner organizations offer many food and education services to help bolster the community,” Kaur said in an email.
