After spending eight years working at Samish Bay Cheese learning every aspect the dairy farm and cheese business, Amber Hernandez is making a big step forward. She is looking to buy the farm that, in its current form, has been in business for 27 years.

“I’ve been here forever and they want to sell,” Hernandez said about Roger and Suzanne Wechsler, who have owned Samish Bay Cheese since 1999. Hernandez is working with the United States Department of Agriculture and other organizations to secure financing to purchase the farm.

Hernandez also started a GoFundMe page to raise money to help with operation costs during the transition period. More than $18,000 has been raised with a goal of $100,000.
