Mukai Farm and Garden, a historic farm with a 100-year history, is strengthening its connection to the surrounding agriculture community on Vashon Island that comprises more than 60 farms.

Officials want to break ground on a project that will transform a historic fruit barreling building into a food hub that will provide dry storage, cold storage and a production kitchen for farmers to produce value-added products.

“I think being able to aggregate will help farmers tap into a wider audience. This could serve as an aggregation space,” said Jade Agua, executive director at Friends of Mukai. The project will be a partnership with the Vashon Island Growers Association that supports agriculture on the island.
