Four intergenerational farm families took steps to ensure 270 acres of farmland throughout Skagit County will be protected from development.

Participating in Skagit County’s Farmland Legacy Program, which is voluntary, they worked to place conservation easements on properties near Mount Vernon and Bow.

"The choice to protect their farmland for future generations demonstrates commitment to their family history and to the farming future of Skagit County," the Board of Skagit County Commissioners said in a joint statement.

Conservation easements ensure farmland remains in agricultural productions, provides revenue for family farms while protecting land from development. In all, the Farmland Legacy Program provided $585,000 for the land protections in 2025.
